This year my work on this blog has basically ground to a halt. There are a couple of reasons for this:

Primarily, I’ve had nothing to write about. During the first years of this blog, I aimed to write something monthly. Most of the time I had an idea in my head, though occasionally I had to force myself to come up with something. This year I’ve given up forcing the issue and consequently went five months without posting. This turned out to be not as bad as it seemed, because just when I thought I’d run out of ideas to blog about two posts came to me in quick succession. That’s just how it works.

The other reason is that the blog has no audience. Eugh. Hardly something I’d want to admit to, right? I can live with it because I’ve not exactly promoted the blog, and I have no social media presence to call upon. If I don’t update I’m not exactly losing out. But it’s hardly motivational.

And then there is the fact I’m on Tumblr.

Ah, Tumblr. I’ve persevered with it because it’s free and has minimal setup and maintenance issues (compared to a self-hosted Wordpress setup, for instance). But it’s painfully obvious that it’s the wrong place for a blog such as mine.

Combine all those points together and I have a situation where I need to step up and make a change, otherwise what’s the point? The first step is ditching Tumblr and giving myself a fair chance of getting some Google search engine luvin’. I’m currently looking at my options. I’ll write an update soon.
